Transformative Therapy Services
In California
At Soul & Psyche, we provide comprehensive therapeutic services to clients throughout California through our innovative multi-day intensive therapy retreats. Our licensed therapists offer both in-person and online therapy sessions, delivering transformative treatment that goes beyond traditional symptom management to address the deeper roots of human suffering. The foundation of our work extends beyond our clinical expertise, captured in our 23-year relationship to one another—a partnership that has weathered seasons of growth and deepened our capacity to hold space for others.
California's Leading Therapeutic Treatment Approaches
Multi-Day Intensive Therapy Retreats
Our signature therapeutic approach involves multi-day intensive therapy retreats that create concentrated healing experiences impossible to achieve through traditional weekly therapy sessions. These retreats provide a safe space where California clients can step away from daily stressors and focus entirely on their journey toward emotional well-being.
The intensive retreat format allows for sustained work on trauma processing, anxiety regulation, and depression treatment while integrating multiple therapeutic modalities within a cohesive treatment plan. This approach often leads to more significant improvements in emotional well-being than traditional therapy formats, addressing complex psychological conditions through comprehensive, personalized care.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR represents a cornerstone of our therapeutic services, particularly effective for California residents dealing with post traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, and trauma-related conditions. This evidence-based approach works directly with the nervous system's natural healing capacity, helping clients process traumatic memories without becoming overwhelmed.
Our specialized training—with Dr. Hamilton's EMDR certification dating back to 1997 and Kimberly Sanders certified since 1991—ensures California residents receive the highest quality EMDR treatment available.
Ego State Therapy and IFS Theory
Ego State Therapy and IFS theory address the complex inner dynamics that impact emotional well-being. This approach is particularly powerful for California residents struggling with self doubt, low self esteem, and internal conflicts that affect their overall psychological health.
These modalities recognize that emotional challenges often reflect different parts of ourselves trying to protect us in ways that may no longer serve our well-being. Through this work, California clients develop healthier relationships with all aspects of themselves, leading to improved self esteem, reduced anxiety and depression, and enhanced emotional resilience.
Ego State Therapy works with the understanding that the psyche contains multiple self-states or "parts" that can become activated by triggers or stress, while IFS theory provides a framework for understanding these internal dynamics.
Trauma Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST)
TIST represents one of our most specialized therapeutic services, particularly valuable for California residents dealing with complex trauma and emotional challenges. TIST focuses on stabilizing the nervous system and developing internal resources before processing traumatic material.
Kimberly Sanders' training as a Level III Trauma Informed Stabilization practitioner, working directly with Dr. Janina Fisher, brings this cutting-edge approach to California residents seeking comprehensive trauma treatment.
Image Transformation Therapy (ImTT)
ImTT works with the understanding that emotional pain affecting psychological well-being is often stored in both body and mind through unconscious imagery and perceptions. This innovative approach helps California residents transform negative self-images and painful memories at their source, leading to profound shifts in emotional well-being and self-perception.

Conditions We Address in California
Anxiety Disorders and Depression Treatment
Anxiety disorders affect millions of California residents, significantly impacting quality of life and emotional well-being. Our comprehensive approach recognizes that anxiety often develops as a protective response to past experiences, requiring therapeutic treatment that addresses both symptoms and underlying causes.
We work with various manifestations of anxiety disorders, from generalized anxiety to panic disorders, helping clients develop both immediate coping skills and long-term healing strategies. Our intensive retreat format provides sustained focus on nervous system regulation and trauma processing in a supportive therapeutic environment.
Depression represents a complex interplay of factors affecting emotional well-being, including unprocessed grief, trauma, disconnection from authentic self, and chronic life stressors. Our therapeutic treatment focuses on both symptom relief and addressing underlying factors contributing to ongoing emotional challenges.
Post-Traumatic Stress Treatment
Post-traumatic stress affects numerous California residents, whether from natural disasters like earthquakes and wildfires, personal trauma, or complex trauma from childhood experiences. Our comprehensive approach recognizes that trauma impacts the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—requiring integrated therapeutic treatment.
We specialize in working with various forms of post-traumatic stress, from single-incident trauma to complex developmental trauma. Our combination of EMDR, TIST, Ego State Therapy and IFS theory, and ImTT provides multiple pathways for processing and healing traumatic experiences.
Spiritual Abuse Recovery
Spiritual abuse represents a particularly complex form of trauma that can profoundly impact emotional well-being and spiritual life. Many California residents have experienced spiritual abuse within religious institutions, cults, or spiritual communities, leaving them with deep wounds around trust, faith, and their sense of self.
Our approach to spiritual abuse recovery recognizes the unique challenges faced by survivors, including the complex relationship between spirituality and trauma, community losses, and particular forms of gaslighting and manipulation. We provide a safe space for California clients to process these experiences without judgment.
Trauma-Focused Work for Individuals in Stable Recovery
For California residents who have achieved stability in their recovery journey (typically 12+ months of sobriety) and are ready for deeper trauma work, we offer specialized therapeutic services that address the underlying emotional pain, shame, and trauma that may have contributed to substance use patterns.
Our approach is trauma-focused rather than addiction-specific, recognizing that many individuals in stable recovery are ready to address the deeper wounds that influenced their relationship with substances. We work with clients to heal underlying trauma, process shame and self-worth issues, and develop healthier relationships with themselves and others.
Our Client-Centered Approach
Personalized Therapeutic Treatment
At Soul & Psyche, we firmly believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to psychological healing. Each individual brings unique history, trauma patterns, strengths, and goals to their healing journey. Our client centered approach tailors treatment to honor these individual differences while providing the depth of therapeutic care necessary for lasting change.
We welcome individuals who are ready for deep healing work, regardless of their background, demographics, or specific circumstances. Our focus is on your readiness for transformative therapeutic work rather than fitting into particular client profiles.
What Sets Us Apart: Beyond Symptom Management
At the heart of our psychology practice is a commitment to offering transformative psychological treatments that go beyond symptom management to address the deeper roots of human suffering. Rather than simply alleviating surface-level expressions such as depression and anxiety, our practice seeks to uncover and heal the underlying wounds and unmet needs that give rise to these symptoms.
Central to our approach is guiding clients on a journey of self-discovery, helping them fulfill the fundamental human need to realize their True Self. This includes supporting clients who are ready to know and integrate their often unacknowledged shadow aspects of the ego—the parts that cling to control and resist vulnerability.
Our work helps heal shame, self-worth issues, esteem problems, neglect, and the lasting effects of verbal or physical abuse. We also focus on resolving burnout, compassion fatigue, hypervigilance, and loneliness that many individuals experience.
Online Therapy and In-Person Options in California
We offer both in-person and online therapy services, recognizing that California residents have varying preferences and circumstances affecting their access to therapeutic care. Our online therapy sessions maintain the same depth and effectiveness as in-person work, using secure platforms ensuring privacy and connection.
The retreat format adapts effectively to online therapy delivery, allowing us to provide intensive therapeutic services to California clients unable to travel for in-person retreats. Online therapy retreats maintain the same structure and therapeutic intensity while offering convenience of participating from your own safe space.
Whether you choose in-person or online therapy options, our commitment to providing transformative, personalized therapeutic experiences remains constant. We work with each client to determine which format best supports their healing goals and practical circumstances.
Addressing California Life Challenges
California residents face unique life stressors including high cost of living, competitive work environments, natural disasters, and rapid social changes that can significantly impact emotional well-being. Our approach recognizes that these California-specific challenges often trigger deeper patterns requiring specialized professional therapeutic support.
California's earthquake risks, wildfire threats, and other natural disasters create additional trauma and stress for residents, requiring therapeutic professionals who understand these specific environmental stressors and their impact on psychological well-being.
Our therapeutic treatment approach includes helping California residents develop effective coping skills supporting long-term emotional well-being and resilience. These practical tools and strategies help individuals manage stress, regulate emotions, and navigate California's demanding lifestyle more effectively.
Beginning Your California Therapeutic Journey
Consultation and Intake Process
We've designed our intake process to be supportive and personalized. California clients can easily book a consultation call with our intake coordinator, who will answer questions about our therapeutic services and guide you toward the most appropriate licensed therapist.
Once your consultation call is scheduled, you will speak with one of our licensed therapists to determine if an hourly format or a retreat is a good fit for your needs and schedule a time to move forward. If the retreat format is chosen, a deposit will secure your retreat dates.
What to Expect from Therapeutic Treatment
Our multi-day intensive therapy retreats are carefully structured to maximize healing potential while ensuring comfort and safety. Day 1 focuses on establishing trusting therapeutic relationships, sharing life experiences and retreat goals, and developing safety for deeper therapeutic work.
The first day is largely about establishing a trusting relationship, sharing information about your life experience and goals for the retreat, and developing a sense of safety so that you will be ready to move forward. The afternoon of your first day and the following days will be focused on using the most effective trauma processing modalities to clear your traumatic memories and help you move forward in your life.
Your retreat concludes with integration work ensuring California residents can incorporate newfound insights into daily life for continued improvement in emotional well-being. This integration phase is crucial for ensuring healing continues after returning to California's demanding environment.
