Serving clients throughout California with additional online services for English-speaking clients internationally, we offer transformative healing that goes beyond traditional psychological treatment to address the deeper roots of human suffering.
Built on the foundation of our 23-year partnership, we bring a unique depth of understanding and collaboration to every therapeutic relationship, offering you the benefit of our shared wisdom and complementary expertise in your healing journey.
What Is Image Transformation Therapy?
Image Transformation Therapy represents a groundbreaking therapeutic modality developed by Dr. Robert Miller that employs sophisticated breathing and visualization techniques to safely transform intense feelings and emotional pain associated with trauma. Unlike conventional approaches that require detailed verbal processing of traumatic experiences, ImTT utilizes guided imagery to access and heal traumatic memories or negative feelings without forcing you to relive painful experiences.
At Soul & Psyche, we integrate transformation therapy into our comprehensive treatment approach, recognizing that many clients carry the weight of persistent anxiety depression or dysfunctional behaviors despite previous therapeutic efforts. Our method addresses disruptive thoughts and behaviors while helping you overcome tough emotional challenges, resolve burnout, compassion fatigue, and hypervigilance, and reclaim your authentic self.
How Image Transformation Therapy Works
The Gentle Transformation Process
Our ImTT process unfolds through carefully orchestrated phases designed to ensure your complete safety and emotional well-being:
Initial Preparation: We begin by identifying underlying emotions connected to distressing experiences while establishing a strong therapeutic foundation where you feel completely safe and supported. Our specialized breathing techniques help you achieve optimal relaxation and emotional readiness.
Visualization and Release: The core of transformation therapy involves guided visualization where you connect with feelings linked to traumatic memories while maintaining safe emotional distance. We help you transform the emotional charge into symbolic representations—such as colors or shapes—that you can then release through controlled breathing exercises, allowing you to process pain and terror without retraumatization.
Integration and Restoration: After emotional release occurs, we guide you through reintegration and restoration of emotional balance. This ensures you not only release emotional pain but also achieve renewed equilibrium and connection to your authentic self.
This innovative process eliminates traumatic memories disruptive thoughts without requiring you to recount traumatic details, making it particularly effective for individuals who find traditional talk therapy challenging or retraumatizing.
Who Benefits from Image Transformation Therapy?
Individuals Ready for Deep Healing Work
We welcome individuals who are ready for deep healing work and authentic transformation. Many of our clients seek greater peace and freedom in their lives, having carried persistent sadness, anxiety, or emotional exhaustion that seems to linger despite previous therapeutic efforts. Others have experienced neglect, abuse, or betrayal—whether from family, professional environments, or religious institutions—that has left them burdened by negative self-beliefs and emotional pain.
Our approach particularly supports those grappling with invisible wounds of trauma related to relocation, loss, spiritual abuse, and emotional neglect. We also work with individuals who have experienced burnout, compassion fatigue, hypervigilance, and loneliness, helping them rediscover their inner strength and authentic voice.
For Those with Established Sobriety
For individuals with 12 or more months of sobriety who are ready for deeper trauma work, we offer specialized support in healing the underlying trauma, shame, and emotional pain that may have contributed to substance use. Our trauma-focused approach addresses root causes rather than addiction-specific treatment, supporting your continued growth in recovery through healing foundational wounds.
Those Seeking Innovative Approaches
ImTT particularly benefits individuals who may find traditional talk therapy insufficient for their needs. What Sets Us Apart
At the heart of our psychology practice is a commitment to offering transformative psychological treatments that go beyond symptom management to address the deeper roots of human suffering. Rather than simply alleviating surface-level expressions such as depression and anxiety, our practice seeks to uncover and heal the underlying wounds and unmet needs that give rise to these symptoms.
Central to our approach is guiding clients on a journey of self-discovery, helping them fulfill the fundamental human need to realize their True Self. This includes supporting clients who are ready to know and integrate their often unacknowledged shadow aspects—the parts that cling to control and resist vulnerability. By fostering deep inner work and authentic connection to the self, our practice empowers lasting change, greater freedom, and a more meaningful, conscious life.
Research and Effectiveness
Currently the image transformation field is advancing through innovative research matters. Dr. Robert Miller, who is trained in image transformation techniques, works in collaboration with the University of California San Diego to conduct rigorous research on ImTT's effectiveness for PTSD treatment. The University of California San Diego is performing comprehensive studies with results anticipated in 2025.
Our clinical experience demonstrates that ImTT effectively addresses various conditions including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and emotional neglect. The therapy's versatility stems from its ability to access and transform emotional roots underlying multiple symptoms and life challenges.
